With an open-air concert in front of 25,000 spectators, the Norwegian city of Stavanger has bid farewell as European Capital of Culture 2008. At the closing event 700 singers from the southern Norwegian region around Stavanger performed. Just before the closing ceremony, Queen Sonja said that she was particularly impressed by the inclusion of the landscape around Stavanger in the activities of the European Capital of Culture. dpa
